Iranian artisans attending Florence handicrafts exhibit

A delegation of 18 Iranian artisans is participating in the 81st International Handicrafts Trade Fair — Mostra Internazionale dell’ Artigianato, which was inaugurated in Florence, Italy, on 22 April 2017.

Native to various provinces across Iran, the attendees are experienced in crafting kilims, traditional jewelry, potteries, ceramics, marquetry, woodcarving, printing, embroidery, sea handicrafts, amongst others, an official with the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization said on Monday.

Touring & Automobile Club of the Islamic Republic of Iran in close collaboration with the CHTHO runs the country’s pavilion that is covering over 100 square meters, Pouya Mahmoudian, the director of the CHTHO exports department added.

The trade fair is also a prestigious venue dedicated to digital craftsmen, designers and illustrators to showcase their home decorations, graphic and interior designs.

Florence Daily News says the fair is where culture, arts, handicraft traditions and new creativities meet and shape up to become exclusive. “Unique pieces, modelled by experienced hands, dedicated to people who want to stand out. Classical, modern, ethnic, contemporary, feasible – any kind of style here finds its ideal dimension.”

The event runs through 1 May 2017.

Tehran exhibit displays works by Turkish artists

Works by Turkish calligrapher Ali Riza Özcan and his fellow miniaturist and illuminator Sehnaz Biçer Özcan are currently on display in an exhibition at the Iranian Book Design Institute in Tehran.

“Özcan’s calligraphy works created in thulth, divani and nastaliq styles,” the director of the institute, Hassan Mohammadi, said in a press release on Monday.

“His nastaliq works differ from the works created by Iranian calligraphers in this style,” he added.

Ali Riza Özcan is a lecturer at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul.

He also said, “In essence, Sehnaz Biçer Özcan’s works have elements of miniatures and illuminations dating back to the Ottoman period.”

Sehnaz Biçer Özcan is a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Istanbul’s Marmara University.

The two artists are scheduled to attend a joint session, which will be held on Thursday 20 April 2017 at 5 p.m.

The exhibition, which has been organized under the auspices of the Tehran branch of Turkey’s Yunus Emre Institute, opened on Monday and will run for three more days at the institute located at 29 Felestin St.

When Arts break borders

The first edition of the Fajr International Handicrafts and Traditional Arts Festival held from 30 January to 2 February 2017 displayed a world of art power showing how traditional arts break geographical borders.

The works displayed are unique. Artworks by artists-artisans like Mohammad Mehdi Babakhani the master of embossing with one of his works preserved in Virtual Intellectual Property Organization with its headquarters in Geneva.

Morteza Afzali, Afghani master in fretwork and steel gilding was another prestigious participants of this exhibition.

Active in the art of batik Noorizadeh has used calligraphy on fabric in this style. He often works with designers in Turkey.

Hamid Kazemnia’s gelims made another part of this exhibition. He has innovated various styles in this art, using solely natural dyes in his works.

A master in the traditional gold work (embroidery) Seyyedeh Fatemeh Khademian has so far won three medals in this field, making even her own outfit out of embroidered handmade textiles.

Hidden Cyprus, a carpet woven by Arash Heydarian was selected at best work in the classical carpet design and production in 2009 at Domotex Expo in Hanover, Germany.

Afsaneh Modir Amani’s traditional embroideries (naqdeh-douzi) displayed a handmade personally designed textile embroidered with gold powder.

Azadeh Nabizaeh is one of the artists who has been working hard to revive textile industry in various regions of the country. By living in different part of Iran, she familiarizes herself with the local culture and rituals encouraging them to revive their textile industry. So far she has been successful in reviving mojbafi (handmade textiles made of sheep wool) in Kurdistan used for producing praying rugs and tablecloths and silk-weaving and sharbafi (hand-made textiles with animal hairs or silk threads) in Yazd. 150 traditional workshops have been revived by her efforts in the past.

170 artworks were exhibited at the first Fajr Handicrafts and Traditional Art Festival held in two sections, traditional and modern approach.

The festival was held from from 30 January to 2 February 2017 at Iranian Artists Forum.

ECO Cultural Institute Holds “Global Transcendental Art Project”

With the aim of promotion and exaltation of common cultural heritage of ECO region, ECO Cultural Institute will hold the “Global Transcendental Art Project” with the participation of certain art & cultural organizations and institutes including the global society of Moslem cities and Arad cultural institute.

Works by masters of traditional arts including Gholamhossein Amirkhani, Nasrollah Afjehee, Yadollah Kaboli Khansari, Abdolsamad Haj-Samadi, Mohammad Jalil Rasuli, Mojtaba MalekZadeh, Mohammad Baqer Aqa-Amiri, Hamid Malekian, Hamid Ajami, Soleyman Saidabadi, Amir Tahmasebi, Masoud Fazeli-Moqadam will be on display for a week at ECO Diplomatic Gallery.

The exhibition opens on 5 February 2017 at ECO Diplomatic Gallery and will run for a week(No. 3 Aqdasieh Street, Niloufar Alleyway.)
